LaSalle Grill is housed in the city's oldest commercial structure, named for explorer Robert de LaSalle who helped make South Bend a bustling trading colony. The 1868 building has been home to the LaSalle Grill since 1991. And like LaSalle, noted restaurateur Mark McDonnell explored uncharted waters when he opened his restaurant at a time when "downtown" did not exactly evoke a positive reaction.

In short time, however, the restaurant became known for its unparalleled dining, combining outstanding food and drink in an atmosphere usually found only in major metropolitan cities. Add to that a professional staff with a commitment to unequalled hospitality and attention to detail, and it becomes clear that you are about to experience an exquisite dining experience.

You know you're somewhere special as soon as you enter the LaSalle Grill. The interior of the restaurant highlights the unique architectural features of the space, including the original neo-classical columns and high ceiling that existed when the building was home to the St. Joseph Hotel in 1868. Architectural details provide an elegant backdrop to the décor updated by Beth Meyer of Chicago. A simple, but rich color scheme of burgundy and sand, accented with warm cherry wood and a constant checkerboard scheme, suggests the Midwestern-Prairie style of Frank Lloyd Wright. The atmosphere has been called "elegant but not stuffy, sleek but unpretentious."

Diners celebrating with groups of 15-80 guests for plated sit-down meals or up to 80 for a cocktail reception can be accommodated in a large, private dining area. Parties of up to 26 guests may choose the smaller Boardroom. All areas are open for lunch or dinner celebrations.
